Tweleve Questions to Consider When Selecting a Rehab Center
Drug addiction can be an intensely personal struggle, and finding a rehabilitation program that meets your specific needs can be one of the most important aspects of your effort to achieve a drug-free future.
In addition to providing personal attention and individualized care, rehab centers and other treatment facilities should also meet certain general standards that increase the likelihood that your stay there will be safe and productive.
Before you agree to enter any program, center, or facility, make sure that you receive acceptable answers to the following 12 questions:
- Does the drug rehab facility appear to be clean, organized and efficiently operated?
- Is the drug rehab program staffed and operated by a team of accredited, licensed, and appropriately trained professionals?
- Does the drug rehab facility accept your insurance? If it doesn’t will personnel there work with you to either create a payment plan or secure another means of financial support?
- Will the rehab program that you are considering provide you with comprehensive services that will meet your medical, psychological, social, vocational, and legal needs?
- Does the drug rehab program that you are considering offer medications as part of the treatment regimen, if this approach is deemed to be appropriate for you?
- Will you have access to individual, group, and family counseling during your enrollment in the drug rehab program? And do the drug rehab professionals with whom you will be working employ other types of cognitive behavioral therapies in order to support your recovery efforts and enhance the odds that you will achieve successful long-term sobriety?
- Does the drug rehab facility take sexual orientation and/or physical disabilities into account when designing individualized treatment programs? Will you have access to care that is appropriate for your age, gender, ethnicity, and cultural heritage?
- Will your treatment plan be reviewed and assessed throughout your stay at the drug rehab facility to ensure that it is continuing to meet your needs as you progress through the recovery process?
- Does the drug rehab program offer additional services to the members of your family to help them understand the nature of your addiction and empower them to take active roles in support of your recovery?
- Does the drug rehab treatment facility emphasize or encourage longer-term treatment methodologies, which have been proven to increase the likelihood of success?
- Will you receive relapse-prevention instruction, be monitored for signs of a potential relapse, and develop the skills that will help you overcome a relapse should one occur?
- Will you have access to long-term aftercare support? Will the drug rehab program that you are considering provide or encourage this support, or will you be left to make aftercare arrangements on your own?
